Genetically modified food-pros and cons

I noticed that more and more often people talk about GMO (Genetically modified food) in media and everyday life. I decided to read some articles to get some information. The main benefit of GMO food is valuable ingredients. People add to food a lot of minerals and vitamins, which ours bodies need the most. For example, scientists create "golden rice", which is solution of vitamin A deficiency.  Due to genetic modification, people can produce food with better quality and taste. For instance food can be more spices or sweeter. Moreover, such food is more resistant to variety of weather phenomena or quantity of pests. However, genetically modified food is a reason of allergies. In general, there are much more allergens in our meals because of GMO. What is more, this food can be danger for flora and fauna. Modification may have reason in harmful effects in ecosystems of animals and plants. In addition, people are not sure about safety of GMO and don't know what the consequences may be in the future. Genetically modified food has many advantages, but we should also consider possible disadvantages.

  1. I understand that the main problem is its influence on the ecosystem, especially non-GMO plants. Also, GMOs are by definition in the hands of big mulinational companies that produce the seeds, which puts individual farmers at a disadvantge.
